    THE DMV

I know we all complain about the DMV, but one thing they did for a family was revoked a license of someone dementia.

this family was literally afraid of their loved one, who has dementia and WAS DRIVING. I had the family get a copy of the physicians report (they had Power Of Attorney) and they sent it to the DMV without signing their names, just a nice cover letter explaining this individual would NOT give up the car. THE DMV immediately, and fast too, 2 wks had that licensed suspended and  a letter in the mail to the senior that he can NO LONGER drive. He never knew WHO turned him in, he thought the DMV has their ways.......

Belinda...you are right .....the DMV is fast and will take care of things when needed!  Sometimes this is the only way a family can "take the car away"....thank you for saying this!

Thank you so much for the tip, Belina!!  That's awesome that you helped the family to get their loved one off the road!!  That situation is so dangerous for everyone involved.  Taking the keys away is a hard choice, but it needs to be done when lives are put at risk!!  Thanks again for giving families a way to take away the keys without risking their relationship with their loved one!!

I am always amazed when a family says they worry every time a loved one with a dementia gets behind the wheel of a car!

That is a fantastic idea. My Dad can no longer drive because of eyesight, and since then my Mom has been talking about getting her license back. She has alzheimers and obviously should not be driving. Of course she doesn't understand that.
