Senior Centers Getting More Innovative to Attract Visitors

Senior centers are starting to offer the same engaging services and amenities that many senior and assisted living communities do to attract visitors. According to a New York Times article published today, cities like Chicago and New York are turning to on-site cafes, yoga and fitness classes, Spanish classes, and other offerings to attract seniors to neighborhood centers that are losing their luster.

In New York, almost half of the city's 329 senior centers are underused, according to Deputy Mayor Linda Gibbs. The city plans to modernize the centers in a joint effort by the mayor's office and the Department for Aging.
