    Sarah,

One of the communities in Pittsburgh has recieved a Wii from a promotion of sorts directly from Nintendo.  Also, back in October I spoke to a retirement community in VA that said they have bowling leagues set up with their Wii system and how many residents enjoy being active again!  I have been spreading the word on Visits with the communities as well!  Great article, thanks for sharing!Wink

Now that's something to tell and prove that they're never too old to learn. :) Great article here.

May you gather up the colors of your life and weave them into rainbows for your heart and may your eyes continue to see the beauty of your life and your soul dance to the music of each day.

I must state just how fun this is from a family personal experience.  Santa had brought a Wii system for my 5 year old son.  Now his Grandparents play video games with him.  It truly has been a great family experience!

Not just at Nursing Homes. I was touring a beautiful community in South Pasadena area/Rosemead , CAlifornia and the seniors were playing BOWLING  Wii, all in their wheelchairs and having a ball!  I know a pun! The Wii has been such a big hit at the AL living property they bought a large screen television and have a bowling league.

You are absolutely right!  I have seen it personally in my area (Pittsburgh) at a nice mix of communities, Adult Family Homes, Assisted Living, CCRC, and Skilled Care.  This is such a great way to still be involved in something.  When I am out touring communities in my area too, I let the communities know of the feedback with the Wii at other communities, and I think 5 additional communities had purchased Wii based off my input!

This isn't a  "kids" gaming system, such as the ATARI, NINTENDO, etc.  It is truly multi-generational.  Any one from my 3 year old to friends and family members of all ages enjoy playing Wii.  Be it bowling, darts, Carnival Games or even the new Wii Fit!

I believe that most of the Holiday Communities have Wii's and it is a HUGE part of their activities program....I love to visit on bowling day!!!

    Hi Maria

You are correct, Holiday Retirement has added the Wii to our enrichment activities.  In some communities we have Wii bowling teams and tournaments, billiard teams, tennis teams, etc.  We have seen an increase in the number of residents who can once again enjoy "sports"  Whenever anyone picks up the Wii remotes, a small crowd gathers, some to play and some as spectators.
