It's harder to do and there are chances for a slip and fall. The idea of not bathing a lot started back during the major plages in Europe. People thought they would wash away their protection.

They don't get out as much, lack of exercise, just getting old.

When people get older their body not support them in work because of weakness. In old age people face many diseases and also they lose their memory not totally, but little bit. Internally they became weak. So Weakness is the main issue.

I don’t think that elderly people have problem in bathing. My all 4 grandparent, my elderly uncle, aunt; all of them love to bath! Yes they are afraid of slipping or falling down but with the help they manage.

I agree with Kevinbrown. Weakness is the major issue at old age and people are unable to do some daily activities like bathing, walking, washing, etc. due to weakness. Old age makes the person weak and ill from several diseases that is the cause of memory loss, confidence loss not independent and they afraid from doing some work.

    Re: Elderly and bathing

Bathing is a complex activity for seniors. It requires intact memory, judgement, organization, mobility, co-ordination, and strength. But since seniors lack the said things now then it makes it hard for them to carry out this activity. If they continue to do this alone then chances are they will fall and get injured. People become weak as they age and thus make some things much harder and more dangerous for them to do.
