    VA Aids and Assistants

I applied for my father for the VA aids and assistants...... From what I understand the money he will recieve is used for medical care. is the room and board considered part of his medical care and will I be able to use it to pay for his room?   What happens to the money that doesn't get used by the time he passes? Can it be use to bury him?  I understand after he passes mom can get some aid help too.  is it used the same way or does she get to use it for her bills if she is not in a home?  I am waiting to see who they will say can be  responsible for taking care of the money.  I was hoping the home could   be appointed.  Dad is in an assisted living faucility...for Alzhemiers.

    DonnaMarie,

It's Aid and Atendance. It's a Pension. THey don't care what you spend it on. They don't care what you do with it.  Your dad is getting it because he is spending all his current income on CARE.   For example Dad  & Mom have $3000 a month of gross income. THe spend $1000 on CARE expenses. Their net income is $2000.  THEY WOULD NOT GET THE PENSION. The pension is 'up to $1949' . They still have too much income.

But let's say $3000 gross and $3000 in Care expanses. $0 net income. They would get the full 1949 a month.

When you dad passwes mom is eligible for up to 1050 a month.  She would have to apply.
