Most Read Story of 2008
My family all agreed, as my Dad lived out his last year, that we would make every effort to honor his wishes and extend his days as long as possible in his home with Mom. My niece, Joanna, stayed with my mom and dad during her summer before starting college. After a year of battling a respiratory disease, it was to be my Dad's last season to sit in his garden and inspire us with his courage and determination. Dad had become quite feeble and was challenged with his speech as the required air to share his thoughts simply was not available. In August as I visited with him, I saw him struggle to rise from his chair and take hold of his walker. He moved determinedly to the curio cabinet, raised his hand and pointed in the direction of a very small box. "Is this what you wanted me to see Dad?" I asked.

Most Read Answer of 2008!
Question: My mother wanders at night on occasions and I'm not sleeping soundly because of this. Do I need to sleep on the couch so I can be ready to hear her go out the door? I'm looking for resolutions here. Thank you again for posting this concern.

Congratulations to the Young Family!
A Place for Mom held a special promotion for families - a chance to win a month of free elder care, paid for by A Place for Mom. We'd like to congratulate the Young Family of New York for winning A Place for Mom's Month's Living Expenses Sweepstakes!
Myrna Young worked with A Place for Mom to find care for her mother and father. Her parents moved into Montgomery Park, a Holiday Retirement community in East Amherst, NY.
"Winning A Place For Mom's Month's Living Expenses Sweepstake for my parents was a great and much needed holiday gift. But the best gift of all was finding A Place for Mom and the wonderful people who work there. They helped me find a place for both my mom and my dad, not once, but twice and in two different states! Both Advisors I worked with - Allison Crutchfield and Ed Guy - gave me support, encouragement, help and information I didn't even know enough to ask for. Thanks so much for the help and the month's living expenses." ~Myrna Young |
