A stroke, sometimes called a “brain attack,” occurs when a blood vessel that supplies blood to the brain bursts or is blocked. Without blood and the oxygen it carries, brain cells begin to die and the part of the body that is controlled by the damaged area cannot work properly. Because brain damage can occur within minutes, it is important to know the symptoms of stroke and to get help quickly. Join Dr. Jain as he discusses what causes stroke, how to recognize stroke symptoms, and how to prevent brain attacks. He will also discuss the latest medical advances in stroke prevention and intervention.
Dr. Jain is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology. He is a member of the team of physicians specially trained in stroke diagnosis and treatment at the UC Irvine Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center located at the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange.
