My mom is 90 and currently recovering from a broken hip--she will need at least another month of rehab therapy. She has been a resident of an Independent Living facility in Florida for about 5 years; even before the broken hip, she needed an aide to come in 3 X per day to help with dressing, showering, medications, food delivery, and colostomy care. She is all alone in Florida with no family members close by to visit and check on her regularly. I want to move her to an Assisted Living facility in Arizona, close to where I live, as soon as she is able (after rehab). My question: how does one make travel arrangements for a frail, elderly person who may need care assistance during the trip? There are no non-stop flights from my mother's city to mine; she would have to change planes once. I am not sure I am capable of caring for her by myself on an all-day trip, which is what this would be. I know the airlines have wheelchairs available, but my mom has so many physical challenges right now, I have no idea how to accomplish getting her moved across the country. Any suggestions you may have for me would be most welcome!
