    Furnishing an Assisted Living home

Help please -- I am a working mother trying to manage a cross-country move for my mother. We are just getting started on the process. Do most of the facilities come furnished? It doesn't make sense to move her furniture xcountry but I'm not sure what this will entail.

Hello - My name is Harmony and I work with The Palms at Bonaventure, an Assisted Living, in Ventura CA.  Most facility's can provide furniture, as ours does, as long as it something you communicate with them.  We understand that some families cannot afford to move all the furniture, and that it may be too large for their new space.  The furniture is usually fairly basic (what would be used for a model room, etc. but can get the job done).  Our building offers up to $500 in moving costs, inquire with other facilities as well to see what specials they offer.  Hope this helps, you can reach me by email if you need or would like further information harmony.brown@hawthornret.com

    Good morning,

Most assisted living communities in the area I live, Northern California, do not provide furnished apartments.  However, there are several move management services that can assist you in purchasing and/or renting furniture for your mother.  If you are interested I can provide you with a detailed list of what you will need (right down to linens and glasses) so that you can get started.

With my move management background I can assure you that you are correct in not moving her furniture cross country, it will cost more to move her furniture than it will to replace it.  Another thought to keep in mind is that if you enlist the help of a senior move manager they will also assist you in selling your Mother's current furniture...this can also help to offset the cost.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like some referrals to services that may be able to assist.

You must go and check that place before shifting. It will be a smart decision for you asn if you shift along with furniture and you didn't find any place to keep that furniture then it will impart more stress and pain to mind than before.

Yes there are many facilities that come furnished and it's much better to go this way rather than bring furniture to your facility of choice. However, if you prefer to personalize it then you can do so. You can bring small things or favorite things of your mother that she will enjoy and can cheer her up while you are miles apart. Just go online and it is teeming with facilities that are fully-furnished. But since they come furnished, they might be a bit pricey and without long term care health insurance, they might leave you broke and with a huge debt. Make sure to explore your options first before you choose, consider the services offered, benefits and if the facility is reliable or not.
