My aunt is hullucinating, she's 89

I read that a urinary tract infection could cause this, so I checked my Aunts urine and she had one, the doc gave her 2 scrips of antibiotics and she seemed better the last two weeks, but it's starting again. Even during the day, not just in the evening. I did test her urine again and it showed purple on test, so I'm getting her in this Friday to the doc. She is worried they will send her to a psyciatrist, that she is crazy or something, I feel so bad for her. She is alone during the day while my husband and I are at work and does fine, but these people she see's scare her. I want to make sure the UTI is all cleared up before jumping into anything. I've read about Haldol and I would be worried that she would fall and get to weak. Has anyone gone thru this with their loved ones?Thanks for listening, I'll let you what we find out on Friday.

In honor of National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, Wesley Enhanced Living (WEL) at Chestnut Hill Manor, an assisted living and dementia care facility located in Brodheadsville, will host experts from the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter who will offer a memory loss workshop that is free and open to the public.

Entitled “Where We Have Been and Where We Are Going,” the workshop will feature a discussion about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, including tips for maintaining memory, the importance of early diagnosis, warning signs, current treatment options and research trends. Materials and light refreshments will be provided.

Simply put, family care giving is the act of assisting a loved one who is chronically ill or disabled. National Family Caregivers month, observed every November, recognizes more than 50 million family caregivers providing $375 billion of "free" care giving services to support our healthcare system.

Family care giving is heart-wrenching. It can happen abruptly, or creep in slowly, until you realize you are caring more for someone else than you are for yourself.

The journey can be a difficult; however, don't feel you must do it alone.

* Believe in yourself: Believing in yourself and recognizing your strengths/limitations will help you to set goals and boundaries for yourself and your loved one.

* Protect your health: Your health is the greatest gift you can give your loved one and your family. Maintain your physical/emotional health. If you don't, who will?

For generations, pets have been a part of the fabric of our lives, keeping us company and providing us with steadfast, loyal devotion. Most of us have felt their unconditional love, and the sheer joy that comes from having a best friend who accepts us for who we are, faults and all, in an uncomplicated, mutually satisfying intimacy. Pets just make people feel happy.

Enjoyed by over half the households in the country, pet ownership is especially common amongst seniors, who, often living on their own, find the company of a good cat, dog, bird, or other pet to be of great comfort. The bond they develop with their pets can be deep-seated; indeed, the elderly’s closest confidants often walk on four legs rather than two.
